Properties of Sodium silicate

  • Sodium silicate is stable in neutral and alkaline solutions. In acidic solutions, silicate ions react with hydrogen ions to form silicic acid, which readily decomposes into hydrated silica gel. After heating to remove moisture, a hard, translucent substance called silica gel is obtained, widely used as a desiccant. It can withstand temperatures up to 1100℃.

1.Uses of Sodium Silicate:

  • Sodium silicate acts as a detergent aid, preservative, and foam stabilizer in synthetic detergents;
  • In the soap industry, it buffers the alkalinity of laundry soap, reduces soap loss in water, enhances detergent performance, and prevents rancidity.;
  • It is used as a filler in papermaking; in the manufacture of silica gel and silica gel; and as a binder in the foundry industry.

  • Used as a binder to bond glass, ceramics, asbestos, wood, plywood, etc;
